An upscale contemporary kitchen should include premium-quality cabinets in a modern, streamlined style (with flat doors). At Cuisines Verdun, our contemporary cabinets are constructed on cabinet boxes with ¾-inch frames. You won’t necessarily find this thickness in the cabinets of every manufacturer of kitchen furnishings. Besides providing added strength and resistance, these cabinet boxes are also durable, whether they’re made from particle board or plywood. The inside of the boxes can also be finished (in white, maple or linen) to create an even richer appearance. The hardware can be personalized to suit your needs, for example, with soft-closing hinges or even LEGRABOX drawers, which feature an exceptional sliding system. Below, Cuisines Verdun presents the most popular materials for contemporary-style cabinet doors.
Wood veneer lends incomparable warmth and elegance to contemporary cabinets. This refined, ecological material comes in a range of wood types, including white oak, walnut and several different exotic woods. A number of stains and finishes are available, such as 10° gloss, 35° gloss and even Italian lacquer. The superior-quality invisible edges, which are resistant to impacts and moisture, offer impressive durability. Like solid wood, this material won’t warp or crack. For contemporary cabinets that are warm and easy to maintain, wood veneer is an excellent choice.
The ultimate in authentic products, solid wood is a fine material. The grain of the wood, which is unique to each cabinet, will lend class and panache to any contemporary kitchen. Solid wood is highly resistant and easy to maintain. It can also be repaired or touched up, if necessary. The wide range of colors, stains, shapes and finishes allows for virtually unlimited customization. Because solid wood is a natural product, rigorous selection is necessary in order to avoid any significant variation in color after the stain is applied. Precise humidity control keeps this raw material stable, enabling it to withstand the ravages of time like no other.
Rough chic is a fashionable material that presents the characteristic texture of wood that has been exposed to the natural elements. This Scandinavian-inspired style brings out the unique personality of the wood. Its nearly limitless durability and resistance makes it an extremely versatile, refined product. Also available in a synthetic version, rough chic usually features vertically aligned woodgrain, but it can also be made to run horizontally, if desired.
The Miralis Italian lacquer offered at Cuisines Verdun is a very high quality kitchen cabinet product that’s available in a variety of colors and finishes from matte to high gloss. The manufacturing process requires the application of multiple layers of color and then opaque or clear lacquer on a panel made of MDF (which is more ecological and less expensive than wood) or hardwood, such as maple or cherry wood, followed by precise robotic sanding. The result is a uniform, moisture-resistant, easy-to-maintain surface that won’t warp. The application of paint allows creating a color that blends in perfectly with the rest of the kitchen. The lacquer can also be repaired if it becomes scratched, making it a very cost-effective material.
Similaque is a synthetic product resulting from an avant-garde technology based on the fusion of materials. Like lacquer, this ultra-resistant material is durable and easy to maintain, especially thanks to the fused edge banding that exhibits no visible joints. The ultra-glossy Similaque products stand out for their quality and unequaled luster, which adds incomparable luminosity to any décor. Similaque’s antibacterial properties and resistance to stains make it a sensible choice for contemporary kitchen cabinets.
Laminate is created from a particle board or MDF panel to which a leaf of paper impregnated with melamine is adhered under heat and pressure. A modern evolution of melamine, laminate has continued to improve over time and is currently a kitchen cabinet material that’s both affordable and increasingly durable. Its durability can be further enhanced with the addition of a lacquer finish. Melamine comes in a wide variety of colors, finishes and patterns.
A unique, low-maintenance product originating from Europe, European laminate is a recent innovation that is manufactured from a particle board or MDF panel to which a wood laminate is applied. Easy to clean and very affordable, European laminate lends a refined appearance to any kitchen, thanks to its imitation wood style. A good number of colors and finishes are also available.
