Wall colors: spotlight on black

Even though white is still a very popular color, dark colors have enjoyed a privileged place in the kitchen in 2018. Whether navy blue, plum or charcoal, the graphic effect provided by these colors lends a touch of elegance and richness to any kitchen. Black is also a very fashionable color. Distinguished and sophisticated, it’s most definitely off the beaten path. Two-tone kitchens have also continued to be in favor. In general, these kitchens feature glossy white upper cabinets, providing a sense of spaciousness, and dark-colored matte-finish lower cabinets.

The mixture of materials

Mixing together several different materials, like wood, metal and glass, presents unlimited opportunities for personalization. Extremely popular during recent years, the mixture of steel and rustic wood—valued both for its warmth and for its rough aspect—continued in the kitchens of 2018. It’s also possible to mix textures, for example, with the bold use of matte-finish materials in the countertops, cabinets or faucets.

The industrial look

It’s almost impossible to talk about mixing materials without mentioning the industrial look. Chic and practical, this style draws its inspiration from New York apartments and old warehouses, blending the rustic aspect of stone walls with the elegance of wood counters. Brass and copper are also featured materials in the faucets, accessories and suspended lighting. The role of the latter isn’t limited to illumination. In fact, it’s an integral part of the décor and can even be the esthetic focal point of the kitchen. Thanks to a mixture of dark colors with splashes of bright color (gold, rose gold, copper, etc.), especially in the accessories, the industrial kitchens of 2018 have an undeniably fashionable character.
